Climbed shoestring today with Alex Texeira. The approach was almost totally dry, very little snow, pretty easy. The regular start was free of snow with a bit of ice scattered around. About 30-40' above the start there was some ice, and we mostly simul solo'd the rest of the way before roping up for the rock finish exit, which Alex solo'd and I followed. There was no snow at all on the entire route, but there was some really decent ice. The best bit was a 20-30' vertical section about 2/3rds of the way up. Lots of ice though, in general, more than in "normal" conditions due to lack of snow. The rock finish was sketchy, lots of loose stuff. 2:30 up, 4 hours car to car. I looked down at the WI 3 finish and it looked fantastic. All in all, this was an awesome way to climb shoestring. No snow, decent, though thin ice, and a beautiful day.
