    Took a little walk into winter in Smugglers Notch today and was quite surprised by conditions considering it was 60 degrees last week. For those that are looking to dull tools and climb without ice protection there are possibilities. Walked up to Elephants Head and the gully would go, which makes me suspect that ENT (without protection) and maybe, with NO promises Hidden. You might also find a waterfall at the start of Hidden.

    For emphasis, this is not protectable ice climbing except for rock gear. This is barely bonded, wet, don't hang too hard ice perfect for clenched climbing and extensive post-climb maintenance. For benefit, the snow is sitting atop loose, dry leave making for fun approach and descent conditions.

    And the road, skiable, if you don't love your skis. Have a great weekend.
